Happy Fourth of July everyone! I hope you are all having a wonderful day celebrating America's Birthday. Last week after I shared some 4th of July Party Ideas my grandmother found this adorable picture of my sister and I at a 4th of July parade from when we were young. As you can tell we took our decoration very seriously!
Tonight the family will be heading downtown to catch the Richmond Flying Squirrels play some ball and to watch the post game fireworks show. Even if you are not at the game you can get a great view of the display most anywhere downtown.

What are you doing to celebrate? Have a Happy 4th of July!

The second big red, white and blue summer holiday is coming up next week. When I was younger my family would always throw a huge Fourth of July party at our house inviting what seemed like the whole neighborhood. We had holiday decoration contests for the kids, backyard games, tons of food and per tradition end the night with my dad putting on a fireworks show. We don't host a party like that anymore at our house, but those celebrations were some of my favorites growing up.

This week I found some great red, white and blue flag themed ideas that you can use for your own Fourth of July party.
This bike decoration remind me of the decoration contests we would have at our Fourth of July parties when I was younger. Using simple decorations like streamers, flags and poms you can decorate a wagon, bike or scooter for a festive Fourth of July Parade. You can get great clip-art ideas like this from Sheek Shindigs.
This was one of my favorite flag themed decorations I found. This flag wreath is an easy DIY craft that you can put together and bring out for all your red, white and blue themed holiday parties. To make this all you need is a styrofoam wreath and the mini flag toothpicks. I found this craft on Oodlekadoodle Primitives
You can't have a Fourth of July party without some festive themed food. Here is a flag themed cake and a fruit cutout watermelon bowl that can add some patriotic flare to your party. I found the flag cake on The Secret Life of a Chef's Wife. For step-by-step instructions on how to make the watermelon bowl click here. I think if you had either of these at your Fourth of July party you can't go wrong.

I think I am going to try my hand at making that flag wreath to display on the front door this year. Are you doing anything for Fourth of July this year? Don't forget you can follow me on Twitter @PreppyPlanner and get some extra party planning planning ideas!

Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend celebrating with their dad! I had a busy weekend filled with baseball fun. However, let me just say that I probably will not be going to a baseball game again anytime soon. On Thursday I went with my friend to a Richmond Squirrels baseball game that went for 13 innings and then on Saturday we took my dad to the Nationals game which went 14 innings! They were both fun games, but they just took a little longer than expected.

Did you know that between the top and bottom of the 14th inning that they do another 7th inning stretch? Learned that on Saturday!

Here are some pictures from my weekend for you to enjoy:
At the Squirrels game on Thursday evening.
My sister, brother and I with our dad on the way into the game.
There is always some fun and games when my family ventures out together!
The whole family enjoying the game.
We stopped at Crumbs after the game for a Father's Day treat. We couldn't resist getting one of these cupcakes for Father's Day!
Here is the Father's Day gift that I got for my dad. My dad loves bulldogs and this one will listen quite well!

As you can see we had lots of fun celebrating Father's Day this past weekend. What did you do with your dad this past weekend?

Happy Father's Day! I don't think that I could have asked for a better dad growing up. Between me, my sister and my brother he had his hands full. This is a picture of my dad, my sister and I when I was about 2 years old. I can't believe how times flies!! You can just tell that my dad is just loving every minute of being a father:)

I hope that you are able to spend some time with your dad today but if that is not possible don't forget a nice phone call is always much appreciated!  What are you doing with your dad today?

Happy Father's Day Dad!!

We all know that food is the way to a man's heart and today's Friday Food feature shares some great ideas that you can whip up for your dad. I loved finding so many great "tie" themed food ideas for the Father's Day holiday. Enjoy!!

(p.s.-Even if you aren't the best cook in the kitchen these are simple enough recipes that anyone can make them for their dad.)
Enjoy a "Tie" Pancake Breakfast idea from My Insanity Tie-riffic Father's Day. All you need to do is get an empty old fashion mustard container that has a pointed nozzle. Draw the outline of your design, let it sit for a few seconds and then you fill it in.
For the father with a sweet tooth a Necktie Cookie is perfect for your dad. This great idea is from Munchkin Munchies who gives great step-by-step instructions on how to make these cookies.
The Idea Room has created a great "tie" craft that you can use to decorate your father's favorite beverage. They even provide you with templates for this craft so it cannot get any easier!

I think I might try those Tie Pancakes on Sunday. What are you doing for your dad this  Father's Day? I would love to hear your plans below! Don't forget you can find these great ideas and more by following me on Pinterest!

With Father's Day coming up this Sunday I thought it would be appropriate to share some fun things that you can do with your own dad. Here are my Tuesday Top Ten list of things that you can do with your dad this Father's Day!

1. Cookout

They always say that the way to a man's heart is through his stomach. Since you already have Dad's heart a great way to tell him "I Love You" can be to fire up the grill and make him his favorite dish. Here are some great Father's Day recipes from Martha Stewart.

2. Go Fishing
Help dad enjoy his afternoon doing nothing but hanging out with his kids and catching some fish. In Richmond a great place to go fishing is down on the James River.

3. Go to the Pool
Whether you have a pool in your back yard or in your neighborhood, taking dad to the pool on Father's Day is always fun for the whole family.

4. Relax at the Beach
My family has taken my dad down to Virginia Beach a few times for Father's Day. Last time we went there was a volleyball tournament going on and lots of vendors set up which added lots of fun activities to our day. This weekend is the Virginia Beach Boardwalk Art Show and Festival.

5. Watch the Race
When you live in the south you will find that dad's love watching the race. This weekend is the Quicken Loans 400. Prop dad up at the TV and the race starts a noon.

6. Watch Golf
If dad is more of a golfer than a NASCAR fan this is the perfect afternoon activity for him. This weekend is the U.S. Open with the first rounds on Thursday and the finals on Sunday. Rory McIlroy will be back to defend his title. Last year my uncle and dad went up to the National and worked the tournament and loved every minute!

7. Go on a Bike Ride
If you dad is more of an outdoors kind of guy taking dad on a bike ride is a great way to spend time with him. You can go for a spin around the neighborhood after a nice lunch (see idea #1 for some great food ideas!).

8. Treat Him to the Movies
With so many great movies coming out this summer taking dad to the movies can be the perfect Father's Day gift. A great family fun movie that is out right now is Madagascar 3.
Don't forget to purchase your tickets ahead of time so that dad doesn't have to wait in line!
9. Play a Round of Golf
What dad doesn't love to play golf. Even if you are not a avid golfer you can take dad out and drive him around the golf course for a round or organize a fun dad's round with his friends. If you don't want to send him off playing by himself get the whole family together for a simplified version and go play some putt-putt.

10. Go to a Baseball Game
This year my sister, brother and I are taking our dad to see the Nationals play against the Yankees. My dad is a huge baseball fan and has not been to see the Nationals play so we thought that taking him to a game this year would be the perfect way to spend time with him.

No matter what you choose to do with your dad this Father's Day just spending time with him can be the best present you can give him. What are you going to do with your dad this Father's Day? Share your plans below!

Happy Memorial Day to everyone! Did you know that Memorial Day was originally called Decoration Day. It wasn't until the 1960's that it officially became known as Memorial Day. Today you can honor those that are currently serving or have past by visiting the Virtual Wall of Remembrance where you can post a note, photo, video or eulogy for a loved one.
Happy Memorial Day from the beach!

What are you doing for Memorial Day today?
