The summer is filled with red, white and blue themed holidays with the first of them being this weekend. Memorial Day is the first of many extended holiday weekends and with that many people will plan to host their wedding during this time. There are pros and cons to hosting a wedding during a holiday weekend but one great pro is that you have the option of coordinating your wedding colors to the holiday. Today I have put together some great red, white and blue themed wedding ideas that would make Uncle Sam proud!
The Wedding Party Stick with the classics when it comes to outfitting your wedding party in red, white and blue outfits. Combining the three individual colors into the outfits is easy to do. For the girls go with a simple dress silhouette in either red or blue and then purchase the alternative colored shoes. For the guys you can still have simple suits or tuxes accented with red or blue (or both) ties and socks. As the bride you can add a colored sash and fun shoes in red or blue.
Table Setting I love the use of the red and blue contrasting against the while table cloth. This table setting combines the perfect amount of color while still giving it an elegant wedding reception feel. To add a little more color you could also rent red or blue chairs for your reception tables. And to top off this table setting the wire heart decorations are the perfect wedding accessory!
Flowers I love floral arrangements made out of a variety of flowers that are all the same color. So when it comes to choosing your bouquet for this red, white and blue themed wedding I strongly suggest using this trend. The girls could carry a white bouquet to complete their red, white and blue look allowing the bride to carry a colored arrangement. You can accessorize the men with a colored boutonniere as well. When it comes to the reception floral arrangements continue using this trend and keep each arrangement a single color.
The Cake Go for a modern twist on the standard red, white and blue look when it comes to designing your wedding cake. You can style single colored tiers or have a designed pied onto the cake with colored piping. This cake incorporates the red, white and blue colors nicely onto the cake design while still keeping the elegance of a wedding cake.
There were a few common characteristics that I found made all these red, white and blue wedding ideas work. Each bride and groom did not overdo the use of their colors, each wedding used the true reds and blues in their decorating choices and they all kept all their patterns simple. What do you think about this red, white & blue themed wedding?

This past weekend was prom weekend for my little brother so of course not wanting to miss anything I drove down on Saturday to see him and his girlfriend off. It has been quite a number of years since I had my senior prom, but I think the only thing that changed between the two were the dresses. Once my brother was off to go and pick up his date we just photo hopped from one place to the next until they left for dinner. Check out some of the pictures from my brother’s prom this past weekend! A family prom picture is a must have for the scrapbook. | Need to have a fun prom pose... | and can't forget one of me and the little bother! | You always have be ready to take a silly candid shot too! To finish up with the prom pictures you have the final group shot. For those that still have not had prom here are some great tips to remember when coordinating your pre-prom night activities. - Find a group of friends to go with and designate 1 person to coordinate your pre-prom schedule.
- If taking pictures at 1 person’s house call the hosting family before prom to see where pictures can be taken and thank them for hosting.
- If taking pictures at a venue call about a week out to check and see if there are any events going on at your potential site so that you can find a good time to pop in and get your group shots.
- Figure out what shots you would like to get at each photo location beforehand. Browse through Pinterest for some cute picture ideas for you and your date as well as designate 1 person to organize everyone when it comes to meeting up for the group shots.
- For dinner call at least 2 months out to a few restaurants to see if they can accommodate the size of your prom group and if they are offering a prom menu special. You will want to book a restaurant at least 1-1 ½ months out at some major locations.
- Allow for some flexibility in your pre-prom schedule. Parents will want to take hundreds of pictures, traffic could be a little crazy and you never know how long the hair dresser will take. When creating your pre-prom schedule allow for extra time for everything. At the very least you can have some extra time at the restaurant hanging out with your friends.

Yes I am a huge fan of cake, especially confetti cake, but every now and then I love a birthday treat that isn’t cake. One year instead of cake we celebrated with a birthday sundae bar which was a lot of fun. My grandmother got a little creative and wrapped one of the cartons of ice cream and attached candles to it so that they could still sing happy birthday to me and let me make a wish. After that we all enjoyed creating our own ice cream sundaes to enjoy. Here is what I like to use when creating a birthday sundae bar. Ingredients Bowls or Cones Vanilla & Chocolate Ice Cream Chocolate & Caramel Syrup Toppings: Sprinkles, Cookies, Candy, Fruit, Nuts, Whipped Cream, etc. I like to stick with basic ice cream flavors since you will be adding a variety of toppings to your ice cream. As an added treat you could add a brownie to the bottom of your ice cream sundae creation. Once you scoop your ice cream have fun “decorating” with sprinkles, candy, cookie crumbles, fruit, nuts and more! One thing is certain, with an ice cream bar everyone will create a sundae they will love! | What is your favorite birthday dessert? Don’t forget as part of this week I am giving away this wonderful party prize pack filled with great party goodies that are perfect for any occasion! I might even add a few more goodies to it this weekend! Make sure you enter before midnight on May 21st for your chance to win! Here is how you can enter to win… | | Good Luck!! I love all kinds of parties, but birthday parties are probably my favorite. Everyone has their birthday traditions, which usually include a combination of all their favorites, but no matter what there are always the staples of fun times with friends, family and of course a cake. Check out some of my favorite birthday party ideas and traditions below! Party Guests I love having a fun reason like a birthday to bring everyone together to celebrate. Not that I ever need an excuse but a birthday celebration just would not be a celebration if you didn’t have your family and friends by your side. One of our family birthday traditions is to go over to my grandparent’s house for a birthday meal. I have pictures as far back as I can remember of us going over to celebrate with everyone. Creative Dishes Though I may be a little OCD when it comes to planning events, food is not one area that I shy over. I am a huge fan of using fresh ingredients, making dishes yourself and having food displayed in creative ways. This could include making the person’s favorite kind of birthday cake from scratch, serving the dishes and in their mini form, on creative displays or even thinking about serving foods that are not a standard “party menu” dish. A homemade cake, like the ice cream cake my grandmother made for my brother, or mini food favorites are the perfect example of a creative food idea! DIY Decorations I will be the first to admit that yes, I have a crafting problem. If I see something I would rather make it than buy it, and that definitely applies to party decorations. I love personalized details and customizing decorations to include a person’s favorite color(s), pattern choice, monograms or picture. Simple DIY birthday decorations like banners, food toppers, and place cards are the perfect personalized party accessories. If I had all the time in the world I would probably never buy a premade party decoration ever again. What is your favorite thing to do when you celebrate your birthday? Don’t forget as part of this week I am giving away a wonderful party prize pack filled with great party goodies that are perfect for any occasion! To keep up with the 1st anniversary celebrations I have dedicated today’s post to a celebration that occurs after the wedding: the 1st Anniversary. After the wedding the bride and groom will have a year of firsts together. The first anniversary marks the end of the first year of marriage and for some a renewal of vows. Check out some of my favorite first anniversary celebration ideas! Wedding Treats I think one of the most sentimental traditions of the first wedding anniversary is the saving of the top tier and a bottle of wine or champagne from the wedding reception and enjoying it on the celebration of the first anniversary. The two of you can enjoy a nice dinner for two (maybe even at the same place you hosted your reception), enjoy your wedding goodies and relive your wedding day by flipping through pictures or watching your wedding video. Gifts In the US the traditional first wedding anniversary gift is paper. Some great gift ideas include customized stationary, a handwritten love letter or a nice book. You can also get a little creative with the paper theme and find unique paper themed gifts like printed paper coasters, a customized calendar, event tickets or a map with the places the two of you would like to go together. Vow Renewals Some people love any excuse to host a party, and the first anniversary is no exception. Some couples enjoy renewing their vows every year on their anniversary with their friends and family. Others might take a fun anniversary trip as their way of celebrating (aka renewing their honeymoon). No matter if you decide to go the traditional route when celebrating your anniversary or create your own anniversary celebrations remember to have fun celebrating. The two of you made it through an entire year together with many more wonderful anniversary celebrations ahead of you! What other ideas do you have for an anniversary celebration? Don’t forget as part of this week I am giving away a wonderful party prize pack filled with great party goodies that are perfect for any occasion! Happy Monday to you all! I hope each and every one of you had a great weekend and was able to spend some time with their mothers. This past weekend I headed down to Richmond for Mother’s Day with the family. My sister, mom and I fixed lunch for both my mom and grandmother. We fixed a wonderful lunch with kabobs on the grill, fruit salad, tortellini with pesto, butter rolls, salad and desserts.
I helped arrange some roses for the table setting, which ended up being quite a painful experience. Yes I know they have thorns but why do they poke you so much! Luckily, I came out of the experience without any bleeding so all was good.
We also celebrated my grandmother’s birthday since we were all together yesterday as she will be turning 88 (go grandma!) this week. I baked and my mom iced a delicious cinnamon cake for her and along with our Mother’s day fudge pie we had enough desserts for everyone to enjoy! After dessert the moms opened their presents and we had a fun closure to our Mother’s Day celebrations.
What did you do with your mom for Mother’s Day this past weekend?

The perfect accompaniment to the Mother’s Day Brunch I shared with you yesterday? A create your own Mom-osa Bar of course! Mom will love this festive themed bar and everyone will love making one (or two!) delicious “Mom-osa” concoctions with the different juices and berries from this drink bar. Bar Ingredients - Juice - Champagne - Sliced Fruit - Glasses - Ice I have found that having 3 juice choices and about 5 fruit choices mark for the perfect bar setup. For your juice choices I love orange juice, a strawberry flavored one and a lemonade variety. There are so many different juice varieties now that there are no right or wrong juice selections, just pick out what you think mom would enjoy the most. When it comes to picking your fruits choose what looks best at the market nearest you. Choices like raspberries and blueberries will not need to be cut, but strawberries, mangos and other large fruits will need to be cut to fit into your glasses. And last but not least, the champagne. Since you are mixing the champagne into a juice you don’t need to worry about picking out a flavored champagne. I have found that a nice dry champagne works best when making mimosas. Once you have all your bar ingredients you can add colored platters, bowls and place cards to turn your bar into a colorful display. Here are three great mimosa bar set-ups that you can base your own creation off of from Holidays Central, On To Baby, and Paper Fancy. Enjoy!! Are you ready for Mother’s Day on Sunday?
