I can't believe that Easter is only a few days away! I still need to get my Easter cards together - eek!! But with card shopping aside there is still plenty of time to whip up some adorable Easter treats, like these Easter Egg Popsicles from blogger Kalio Chic. You can make these kid friendly or pour in your favorite summer time beverage like you would for homemade freeze pops. Just make sure you label the eggs accordingly if you are making both! Here is what you will need to make these Easter treats:

Ingredients
  • fruit juice, lemonade, or drink mix
  • plastic Easter eggs
  • plastic candy sticks
  • empty egg carton
  • a large nail
  • a thumb tack
  • a piping tip

Instructions
  1. First place all your plastic eggs upside down in your empty egg carton.
  2. Take your thumb tack and poke three holes in the bottom. Two of these holes are for letting the air escape when filling the egg, the third one should be in the center of the bottom. Make this center hole bigger using the large nail. You will need it to be as big as the candy stick.
  3. Take your piping tip and slowly pour your drink choice into the egg until it is almost full and then place your candy stick into the egg.
  4. Once all your eggs are filled place the carton into the freezer until they are firm.
  5. When you are ready to serve, pull the eggs out of the freezer and warm up the top of the egg with your hands so that you can pop off the top to enjoy.

Are you making any egg-tra special Easter treats to enjoy on Sunday?

Growing up I loved taking part in Easter egg hunts with my siblings that my grandmother would plan for us. It didn't matter if we were in Richmond or if we were at the beach on Spring Break, she would always bring those plastic eggs with here so we could go on an egg hunt. Now that we are all older we don't participate in the egg hunt anymore on Easter Sunday but boy were those fun times! There are so many great ideas on how you can organize an egg hunt for kids today and even some great ideas on how to organize one for those who may have outgrown those matching Easter outfits (I know you all know exactly what I am talking about!). Here are some great tips on how you can put together the perfect Easter egg hunt for any age group.

1. Color coordinate your eggs.
If you have a large group of kids, especially of varying ages, color coordinating who searches for what egg is a great idea. You can hide the eggs according to the kid who will be searching for them. This way every kid will have fun during the egg hunt! Don't forget the color coordinating buckets as well!

2. An egg hunt doesn't have to be outside or during the day.
You don't have to have a big yard to host a successful egg hunt. You can have just as much fun hiding all your eggs inside for people to find (just don't forget to inform your guests where the off-limits areas are). Another fun spin on the traditional egg hunt is to host your egg hunt at night and give your egg hunters flashlights or use glow-in-the-dark eggs. This is a great option if you have a bunch of teenagers to hide eggs for.

3. Customize your egg surprises.
As we got older my grandmother changed out some of the candy she put in the eggs for coins (which my sister and I always loved finding) and other treats age appropriate. For an older group of egg hunters (or even adults) instead of candy you could fill some of your eggs with mini shooters, money, scratchers, gift certificates, or even movie tickets to go along with your traditional candy filled eggs.

4. Add confetti eggs.
Ever heard of cascarones? They are eggs filled with confetti and traditionally found at fiestas. However, you can usually find these anywhere that sells plastic eggs (I saw some at my local Kroger just last week). You could add these to your egg hunt with your normal eggs and if you find one you can break it on a fellow egg hunter and then get to steal one of their eggs from their basket.

Are you hosting or taking part in an Easter egg hunt this year? Be sure to share your favorite Easter egg hunt ideas and memories below! Hoppy Easter!

While I love marshmallows, for some reason I am not the biggest fan of PEEPS. I know some people who love enjoying PEEPS year-round (they do make other creatures for all the various holidays) but for some reason I just don't like all the added sugar that coats the marshmallows. However, for those who love PEEPS here you will love today's recipe that features those colorful Easter treats: PEEPS S'Mores.
Ingredients
  • Graham Crackers
  • Hershey's Chocolate Bars
  • Peeps

Instructions
  1. Break graham cracker sheet in half. Set one half aside.
  2. Break a Hershey's bar in half and place one square on top of your graham followed by a peep.
  3. Place your s'more creation into the microwave for approximately 10-20 seconds (until the peep puffs up).
  4. Remove from microwave and top with the reserved graham cracker half. Squish down and enjoy!

I think I might just stick with my bag of marshmallow bunnies this Easter but I hope someone can enjoy this adorable PEEPS recipe. Do you have a favorite PEEPS inspired recipe you like to make? Share your favorites below! Happy Friday!

Before every holiday season I love finding new decorating ideas and crafts for me to tackle (well try) before the holiday actually arrives, and Easter is no exception! Last year I shared with you some great Easter party and egg decorating ideas that will keep me busy for quite a few years. I'm thinking this year I might try out the sharpie eggs, but we shall see! While I may have a Pinterest board just bursting with great Easter themed recipes, crafts, decorations and more, today I thought I would share with you some great ways that you could decorate your table for Easter. I can't wait to try some of these ideas out!

Carrot Silverware Set
If your family is one to host Easter outside or if you are serving food at an egg hunt this is a great idea to try out this year! Spoonful provides a great step-by-step tutorial on how to wrap your utensils to turn them into these Easter carrots. Display your carrots in an adorable basket and you are ready for lunch!

Bunny Napkin
And for those dining inside on Easter these bunny napkins from Taste of Home are the perfect table accessory! I loved making origami when I was younger and napkin folding is no different. These bunny napkins are the perfect accessory for your plate or you could create a springtime centerpiece with the napkins, paper streamers and confetti.

 Easter Mason Jars
There are no shortages of holiday craft ideas that use mason jars. (I feel like I need to start stock piling mason jars ASAP.) When I saw these bunny and chick mason jars from blogger Number 2 Pencil I thought they would make the cutest Easter table centerpiece! She used spray paint and vinyl adhesive to decorate the jars but you could also use regular craft paint and sharpies to create your own Easter animals. Don't forget to fill them with Easter treats!

Peeps Floral Centerpiece
This is another great Easter table decoration idea from Taste of Home: a peeps floral centerpiece. They provide you with a simple, 4-step tutorial on how to create this yummy Easter floral centerpiece. And of course you can use any kind of vase, candy and flowers you want when you create your own peep centerpiece. I think tulips with coordinating peeps and jelly beans would look great out on the Easter table.

Burlap Easter Bunnies
These bunny bags from blogger Landeelu would made the most adorable Easter table display. She provides awesome pictures and directions on how to turn a piece of burlap into springtime Easter bunnies. While I don't own a sewing machine I think that these would still be easy enough to make by hand sewing them. You can fill them with beans, rice, corn or yummy Easter treats.

How do you plan on decorating your table this Easter?

From visits to local breweries, celebrating my sister's birthday, watching my March Madness bracket bust, cooking dinner with my BFF, and running in a 10K with friends, these past few months have most certainly kept me on my toes! I have been cooped up way too long this winter and am taking full advantage of all these warm, sunny days we keep getting a glimpse of. Take a peek below to see what I have been up to lately...

There is no better way to kick off the spring season than by filling out a March Madness bracket and cheering on my teams!
Last month I was able to take a little trip to go and visit my sister for her Birthday celebration.
My BFF and I cooked a yummy Greek dinner of chicken souvlaki, spanikopita and veggies with tzatziki sauce.
I headed down to Richmond for one of the best races in the country: the Ukrop's Monument Ave 10K! The rain wasn't going to stop us on raceday!
The best part of the race? Enjoying my white house rolls!
And a raceday wouldn't be complete without a fun (and filling) brunch after at Kitchen 64.
And Charlottesville may be known for all their local vineyards but recently I have been exploring a few of the local beer and cider venues in the area with friends. I cannot wait to go back for all the summer events these places will be hosting!
What have you been up to so far this spring?

Have you ever had a dessert craving but didn't want to deal with making an entire pan of something (knowing full well that you would end up eating the entire pan)? Well I had one of those dessert cravings really badly last week. I wanted something easy to make, chocolaty, and would not leave a ton of leftovers staring me in the face.

So to solve this dessert dilemma I headed over to Pinterest to see what I could find. (Warning: Do not type in "chocolate dessert" into the search bar because you will immediately go into a chocolate comma.) After I came out of my chocolate comma, I decided to browse through some of my recipe pins that I have never tried  and ran across my pin of mug desserts. While this might have been one of the first pins I added, I have actually never actually tried any of these recipes (I know! Who would have guessed that?!?!) and decided to try one out: Chocolate Peanut Butter Mug Cake from The Novice Chef

Ingredients
  • 3 tablespoons flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • pinch of salt
  • 3 tablespoons milk
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon peanut butter

Instructions
  1. In a large mug, whisk together the dry ingredients (flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder and salt).
  2. Next add the milk, vegetable oil and peanut butter and whisk until smooth.
  3. Cook in the microwave on high for 1 minute and 10 seconds. (Heads up it is totally normal if your batter rises a lot and then deflates so don't worry.)
  4. Grab a fork and enjoy!

I am happy to report that my first go at a mug recipe was a delicious success and I cannot wait to try another mug recipe! This was so easy to make for one or if you had to make 20!

Do you have a favorite dessert mug recipe that you love to make? Share your favorite(s) below as I would love to try out more! Have a wonderful weekend!

Happy April Fool's Day! Have you played a prank on anyone or has anyone played a prank on you today? If so I hope it was a funny one. With a new month comes plenty of new reasons to celebrate and I found some great holidays that you will love to take part in this month. Just don't get too excited about your new party plans for the month and end up having a prank pulled on you by one of your friends. (Sorry, I will not take responsibility for that. lol) Get out those calendars and get ready for some fun!
1. April 2nd: National Peanut Butter and Jelly Day. In celebration host a PB&J party with a PB&J bar. See who can create the tastiest combination!
2. April 3rd: World Party Day. Back in the 90's this holiday was created to recognize peace and joyful expression as fundamental human rights, and celebration (or party) as the opposite of war. I am all for celebrating celebration!
3. April 5th: International Pillow Fight Day. This might be one of the most organized holidays wiith pillow fights planned all over the world. You can find the one closest to you or plan one for you and your friends to take part in.
4. April 7th: National Beer Day (April 6th is New Beers Eve - haha). Back in the day when you couldn't drink beer people were so sad. But on April 7, 1933 Roosevelt made it possible to buy beer again so everyone celebrated! So grab a glass and toast to those who made this day possible.
5. April 10th: National Siblings Day. While you may have to put up with them, you know you still love them no matter what. So today celebrate with your siblings - and probably drive each other crazy at the same time!
6. April 12th: Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day. Back in college every Thursday was grilled cheese Thursday and everyone made sure to eat in the dining hall that day. While I have been out of college a few years now this is the perfect way to bring back that college tradition! Now I just have to decide which combo to go for!
7. April 13th: Scrabble Day. As a fan of most every board game I was excited to see that today is scrabble day. Grab some friends (and a dictionary) and let the games begin!
8. April 18th: National Wear Your Pajamas to Work Day. Just please don't blame me if your director of HR or your boss sends you home!
9. April 22nd: National Jelly Bean Day. Since you probably just stocked up with jelly beans from Easter (April 20th) today is the perfect day to celebrate this yummy candy. Just be careful if you have those Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Jelly Beans, there are some disgusting ones in there!
10. April 25th: World Penguin Day. Who knew that this was an actual world holiday?!?! Even if you aren't located near the South Pole to see these adorable animals you can still celebrate at home with all these activities provided by Sea World.

Which holiday are you looking forward to celebrating the most this month?

This past weekend I went cider tasting at some local venues, and boy was it yummy! I love the sweetness of ciders and had fun learning about some of the local establishments and what apples the grow in the area. Charlottesville, VA is famous for their apple picking in the fall and you can read up on my adventure to the local orchard from my post this past fall. But apple picking aside, while at one of the tastings I saw this great recipe on how to make hard cider sangria that they had pulled from the Summer 2013 edition of Edible Blue Ridge. I am a huge fan of sangria in the summer (fruit and drink in one? heck yea!!) and cannot wait to try out this recipe once it gets warmer. Enjoy!

Ingredients
  • 3 peaches, thinly sliced
  • 2 naval oranges, thinly sliced
  • 1 pint of berries (any variety or combination)
  • 1/2 cup loosely packed basil leaves, with more for garnishing
  • 1 bottle (750 ml) white wine, dry to semidry, chilled
  • 2 bottles (750 ml each) hard cider, chilled

Instructions
  1. Put all the fruit, basil and wine in a large pitcher or punch bowl.
  2. Let sit out for a couple of hours, or refrigerate for a day.
  3. Add cider just before serving. Make sure each glass gets plenty of fruit and then garnish with a basil leaf.
  4. Enjoy!

I cannot wait until it gets warm enough to go sit outside at some local wineries, breweries and cideries (???)! What is your favorite drink to enjoy once it gets warm out? Have a wonderful weekend!

The calendar may say it is spring, but the snow that is currently sitting outside is not exactly screaming spring (but that may just be me). So to try and help get you (and me!) in a spring state of mind I thought a nice floral themed post would be appropriate for today's wedding Wednesday post.

When choosing the flowers you want to incorporate into your wedding day design, there are a few things that you should keep in mind: availability, cost, and durability.

  1. Availability. Since most bride and grooms will select their flowers approximately 6-9 months before their wedding they don't really think about what will or will not be in season at that time. This should be the first thing you ask your local florist. Your florist will probably be able to find your favorite flower anytime of the year, but this would be because they would be shipping in those blooms from somewhere else in the world (thus a price increase that may not be as beautiful as the bloom). Which takes us to point number 2...
  2. Cost. While some flowers are more expensive than others, ones that are out of season will also cost more than ones in season. Let your florist know your floral budget upfront since all the arrangements will be priced out based on the flowers you choose.
  3. Durability. Unlike most events when you buy floral arrangements, the ones on your wedding day won't just be sitting there looking pretty. Look for flowers that have a higher durability when selecting the ones for your bouquets as those will be thrown around a little more than the ones just sitting on the tables.

Once you take these factors into consideration have some fun picking out your wedding day bouquet! If this still seems daunting here are some of the most popular wedding flowers that will set you in the right direction.
1. Roses
2. Tulips
3. Calla Lily
4. Lily of the Valley
5. Hydrangeas
6. Peonies
7. Ranunculus
8. Sweat Peas
9. Gardenias
10. Orchids
11. Gerber Daisies
12. Casablanca Lilies

What is your favorite flower that you would include in your wedding day bouquet?

Planning a wedding can definitely put a strain on the checkbook, no matter what the budget is. You don't want to leave anything out like flowers or cut your great Aunt Emma from the guest list, but at the same time you don't want to have to take out a second mortgage on your house. So how do you keep your expenses in check? Well there are actually a few things that you should NEVER pay for when it comes to planning your wedding.
1. A Wedding Website. With everything (and everyone) connected to the internet 24/7 it is no surprise that having a wedding website is considered standard on the wedding planning check-list. While you could pay for your own domain name, there is really no reason to. Most wedding planning sites, like The Knot, offer this service for free. The site is only going to be useful for a few months so why bother paying for it?

2. Extra Photos. Most photographers offer wedding picture packages which ends up giving the couple a "discount" if they were to purchase each of those items individually. However, if you were never going to purchase all those individual prints you end up paying for more than if you paid for everything a la carte. Only pay for what you want no matter the "discount."

3. Online Invitations. If you know how much I love discounts you would know I NEVER make a purchase online without 1.free shipping and 2.searching for an online discount code. 9/10 I can always find coupon codes for free shipping or additional discounts. Search wedding message boards, coupon sites (Living Social and Groupon are great places to start) and signup for sites email lists to get the best deal. Never pay full price for anything you order online, especially invitations.
4. Personal Calligrapher. And along those same lines don't pay for a personal calligrapher. If you handwriting isn't picture perfect, download a FREE font from online, create a template for your place cards and envelopes and print them yourself. However, if you know someone that can make your invitations look like you paid an arm and a leg for you could maybe ask that they help you out and that could be their wedding present to you.

5. First Meeting Fees. Whether you are trying on dresses for the first time, cake tasting or meeting with a florist to go over ideas you should NEVER pay for a first meeting (it's part of their job). Most of the time if there is a fee (mostly for cake tasting) that fee should apply to your order when you place it. There are so many vendors when it comes to finding a dress, cake, flowers, etc. that you can easily find another vendor if one tries to charge you a first meeting fee.

Do you have any other tips on ways that you can avoid paying too much when planning your wedding?

xoxo
