I love summer as I get to hangout at the pool and beach with friends and family. Even though we get to enjoy the warm weather sometimes it can get to be really hot outside. In Virginia we see everything from nice 80 degree weather to heat waves that are over 100. With weather this crazy I love enjoying a cold treat when I am at the pool. A great pool time treat are these homemade freeze pops. You can make them with any flavors you like and for those that are 21+ add a friendly pick me up.
To make these homemade ice pops you will need:
     - a blender
     - your favorite drink
     - freeze pop bags (You can buy 100 bags for $7.99 on Amazon)

     - funnel

To make first mix up your drink. If you have fruit or ice use the blender to evenly blend everything together and to make it easier to pour into your bags. Once you have mixed up your drink use the funnel to pour the drink into the freeze pop bags. Tie off the top and you are ready to stick it into the freezer. If you have one of the vacuum sealer machines you can also make your bags using that. Let the pops sit in the freezer anywhere at least 8 hours before removing to enjoy.

You can get as creative as you want when making your freeze pops. Adding bits of fruit or flavors, like mint, to your drink mixes can make the combination possibilities endless. Just remember that adding alcohol to your mix will make the freezing time be a little longer than non-alcoholic freeze pops.

What flavors of freeze pops would you make? Share some of your favorite summer drinks that you would make into a freeze pop below. I think I might go for a fun summer margarita flavored freeze pop. If you make a batch today they would be ready for a fun pool side snack for the weekend!

When it comes to planning a fun summer party, hosting a pool party is the way to go. You are able to get a little sun, hang out with your friends and relax from the heat by having fun in the pool. Today I created a great preppy pool party theme that you could use for your next pool party.

When it comes to all things preppy you can't go wrong with stripes. If you are hosting the party at your home you can find great striped pillows, umbrellas, and a cabana that you can put out to decorate the area. Add a DIY party banner using striped scrapbook paper along with hanging paper lanterns and you have your decorations covered. You can also find striped towels and pool floats to put out for your guests when they first arrive.

For those celebrating a birthday, a preppy striped birthday invitation is a must. The invitation card above is from etsy shop
Cutsie Tie Dye Boutique and also comes in pink and green.
An easy way to add some preppyness to your food display (and provide for easy clean up) is through striped utensils, plates, straws, napkins and favor bags. I found all of these striped items on etsy, which is my go-to when it comes to finding party ideas and creative party items.
Striped Forks from Sucre Shop. Striped Favor Bags and Striped Straws from Enchanted Frog Events.
Striped Cups from
Paisley Palooza.
And you can't forget the food at this preppy pool party. You can serve popcorn in adorable striped popcorn boxes and cupcakes in striped liners. The cupcakes and popcorn idea came from the blog Lil Sugar. Serving cakepops at your preppy pool party is a great way to get creative and are an easy treat compared to a cake when you are outside at the pool. These whale cake pops are from The Party Wagon blog. To add more stripes to the preppy whale party the hostess used crepe paper to create a striped background.
I am in love with all of these preppy pool party finds today. I might even order some of those items from etsy just to have around for everyday use they are so cute! What is your must have when it comes to hosting or going to a pool party? Now all you have to do is go grab your suit and you are pool party ready!

When it comes to wedding you can host the reception just about anywhere. Originality in your reception venue is more common now as couples want to move away from the standard event ballroom. Hosting your reception at a pool is a fun way to celebrate. Here are some great ideas that you can include in a pool party wedding.

When it comes to decorating at an outdoor venue it is a great idea to have additional lighting. One option you can try is creating lantern columns. Lantern columns, like the ones on the left, can provide a great lighting option. Martha Stewart has provided a great tutorial on how to make them. Another great option is to string up Christmas lights like in the picture below. Colored lights are even an option with your outdoor lighting.
Choosing a unique venue can help in shaping your event theme. With a pool party atmosphere you can have your food, drinks and decor be pool themed. And of course when it comes to your color selection a nice pool blue and white are perfect color options.  And of course when it comes to the invitation a pool theme is a must!
Creating pool themed food and drinks are also a great option when incorporating the pool theme into your wedding. These fun pool themed cookies were made by Glorious Treats and can be served along side your wedding cake or can be handed out as your wedding favors. And no wedding is complete without a specialty cocktail. This Bon Voyage martini created by Tasty Trix is pool inspired and wedding cocktail worthy.
Would you use this pool theme at your wedding? What other pool inspired details would you include? Share your ideas below in the comments or by tagging your indeas with @PreppyPlanner on Pinterest. To keep up with the latest from The Preppy Planner you can follow me on Twitter @PreppyPlanner and by signing up for the daily emails on the "Follow Me" tab.
