There are so many traditional food and drinks when it comes to the Kentucky Derby. A common theme that I saw was the use of bourbon in just about everything. So for today’s post I have put together (almost) an entire Derby meal using this race day favorite all thanks to Southern Living. They really do have the perfect recipes for every occasion!
Bourbon-Marinated Pork Tenderloin
Ingredients
2 1/2 pounds pork tenderloins
3/4 cup soy sauce
1/2 cup bourbon
1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
1/4 cup water
1/4 cup canola oil
4 garlic cloves, minced
3 tablespoons brown sugar
2 tablespoons ground black pepper
1 teaspoon white pepper
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1 teaspoon salt
Garnish: fresh parsley sprigs

Directions
1. Rinse tenderloins, and pat dry.
2. Combine soy sauce and next 9 ingredients in a large zip-top plastic freezer bag or shallow dish; seal or cover, and chill at least 12 hours. Remove pork from marinade, discarding marinade. Sprinkle evenly with salt.
3. Grill, covered with grill lid, over high heat (400° to 500°) 30 minutes or until a meat thermometer inserted into thickest portion registers 155°, turning occasionally. Remove from heat; cover with aluminum foil, and let stand 10 minutes or until thermometer registers 160°. Garnish, if desired.
Bourbon Balls
Ingredients
1 (16-ounce) package powdered sugar
1/3 cup bourbon
1/4 cup butter, softened
50 pecan halves (about 1 1/4 cups)
2 cups (12 ounces) semisweet chocolate morsels
1 tablespoon shortening

Directions
1. Stir together first 3 ingredients until blended. Cover and chill 8 hours.
2. Shape mixture into 1-inch balls. Gently press pecan halves into 2 sides of each ball. Chill 8 hours.
3. Melt chocolate and shortening in a saucepan over medium heat. Remove from heat. Dip bourbon balls in chocolate, and place on wax paper.
4. Chill 1 hour or until hardened.

And for the perfect derby drink check out my post from last year on how to make the traditional Mint Juelp.

Now that you have the food and drinks covered it’s off to the races! What are you doing to celebrate the Kentucky Derby race this weekend?

xoxo
