This past weekend I celebrated St. Patrick’s Day by running the Shamrock ½ Marathon down in Virginia Beach. Even though I was running 13.1 miles (that last .1 is what always gets you!) I still had lots of fun with my friends and family and we all had a blast celebrating St. Patrick’s Day! We had tons of fun at the packet pickup and expo on Saturday, enjoyed a pre-race meal at the beach house, ran the half on Sunday morning, enjoyed the post-race Yuengling celebration and had an amazing breakfast at the famous Pocahontas Pancakes post-race. We had so much packed into this past weekend that I practically collapsed as soon as I got back on Sunday evening. I hope you all had as much fun as I did celebrating St. Patrick’s Day this past weekend. Check out some of the pictures I took of this past weekend’s festivities below!

Besides picking up all our race day goodies we found a board cut out that you could stick your head through to become a leprechaun. Needless to say as soon as we saw it we all had to get our picture taken.
Back at the beach house we were getting ready for our pre-race "carbo loading" meal. My mom, who is never one to disappoint when it comes to holiday celebrations, went all out on the decorations. She had a clover plant, tons of decorations, buttons, necklaces, napkins, plates and green cups for our St. Patrick’s Day celebration.
And of course I had to pick out which button I wanted to wear for the race on Sunday. Like my choice?
Once the decorations were up I took a stroll down to the beach before we ate. We had an enormous buffet of food for dinner including 2 types of pasta, pizza, salad, multiple dips, fruit salad, and a few desserts options. There was no way anyone was leaving hungry from this dinner. One of my favorite appetizers we had was a cheese plate sampler of some great Irish inspired cheeses: Dubliner Irish Cheddar with Stout, Havarti with Dill and Kerrywood Irish Cheddar. After our pre-race dinner celebration it was off to bed as the race started at 7am the next morning.
On Sunday morning we were quite a fun group (there were quite a number of us who are not morning people). We were decked out in our race/St.Patrick’s Day gear and ready to go. Unfortunately I was not running with my phone, so no pre-race picture. Once I finished (set a PR of 1:56:08!!!) I did get my camera back and we all took some great group pics while enjoying a few pints of Yuengling. After a while it just got to be too cold so we called it a day and headed out. I think we came to the consensus that we needed to pick a warmer destination for our next group ½ marathon. Who knows where we will end up!
I hope everyone had an amazing St. Patrick's Day weekend and enjoy the rest of your Monday!

xoxo
Megan
